Margaret Wawman

Margaret Wawman.

As the new Chairman of the Friends of the Forgotten Garden at Lewtrenchard it seems appropriate for me to write a few words about my Mother-in-Law who sadly passed away after a long illness last autumn. She will be known to the Friends in-part as the wife of one of our founders Ron Wawman. Margaret enjoyed the community of the Friends, in which she actively participated over the early years of the restoration. Margaret was, like her Prime Minister name sake, the daughter of a grocer. Born in Sheffield she became a nurse and followed her Doctor husband on the travels associated with army life. On retirement they came to Lewdown to be close to members of her family. Here Margaret was active in the Women’s Institute, Broadley Chapel and other local groups.
A tree has been planted close to the main pond and a memorial bench has been set up in the Forgotten Garden in a position that overlooks the church and beautiful valley of Lew. A quiet place for remembering a lovely lady.
